Recalling the Famous Philosophy of Tongji Law School——Prof.XU Daolin

Prof. XU Daolin (1906-1973), born as Shen Jiao, was from Xiaoxian County, Anhui Province. In 1924, Prof. XU Daolin visited Europe and studied public law theory in Germany. In 1931, he received a doctor's degree in law. After returning to China, he served in the National Defense Design Commission, the Examination Department, and the Administrative Affairs Office of the Executive Department.

After the victory of the war of Resistance against Japan, Xu tried to avenge his father, but to no avail. After that, Prof. XU returned to academia and taught at the National Tongji University Law School, where he became the dean. After 1949, Prof. XU had taught at Taiwan University, Tunghai University, the University of Washington, Columbia University, and Michigan State University, lecturing the history of Chinese legal system and the law of Tang Dynasty. Relying on his profound academic foundation in both the Old Learning and the Western Learning, he has done fruitful research on Chinese and foreign legal systems.
