The Shanghai High People’s Court and the Shanghai People’s Broadcasting Station jointly hosted the offline special event "The Story Behind the Judgments——The First Class for New Judges", and held an oath ceremony for new judges as well. Prof. JIANG Huiling, Dean of Tongji Law School, was invited. And he delivered the earnest hope for the newly admitted judges in Shanghai.
Prof. JIANG Huiling has two hopes for these new judges. He said, “Firstly, I hope that new judges will live up to the trust of the times. The rule of law in China is from scratch during a long period of time. And generations of legal professionals have overcome countless difficulties and obstacles, and are finally in this great era of rule of law in China. This is a blessing for the Chinese nation as well as a rare opportunity for our legal professionals. So young judges should live up to the trust of this great era.”
Secondly, he hopes that “New judges shall cherish your power to distribute justice. When a democratic society is operating normally, everyone can enjoy the justice they deserve and live in peace and harmony. However, when disputes occur between the parties and justice is redistributed, the judge becomes the 'temporary custodian' of justice, and there is only one choice, which is to distribute justice fairly in accordance with the law. Regardless of whether the parties come to thank you or not, fair justice should become the normal state of the judge's profession, and it is in this normal state that judges become the incarnation of justice and the spokesperson of the law.”
