“Sino-Italian Center on Administration of Justice” was Inaugurated

On December 18th, 2020, the inauguration ceremony of the Sino-Italian Center on Administration of Justice was successfully held. Sino-Italian Center on Administration of Justice is founded jointly by Tongji Law School and the Sino-Italian School, and supported by the University of Pisa as an important partner. Prof. GU Xianglin, vice president of Tongji University, and Prof. Michele Geraci, former Vice Minister of the Italian Ministry of Economic Development, attended the inauguration.

Prof. JIANG Huiling, Dean of Tongji Law School, Dr. WU Weimin, Party Secretary of CPC of Tongji Law School, Mr. LIU Zhijian, Deputy Party Secretary of CPC of Tongji Law School , Prof. XU Gang, Deputy Dean of Law School, Mr. LIANG Yijun, Deputy Director of International Office of Tongji University, Ms. XU Yunxia, Deputy Dean of Sino-Italian College, and Students from Tongji Law School and Sino-Italy School attended this ceremony. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Prof. Michela Passalacqua, Vice President of the University of Pisa, Prof. Francesco Dal Canto, Dean of Pisa Law School, Prof. Aldo Petrucci, Deputy Dean of Pisa Law School, and Prof. Angioletta Sperti, Director of International Offices of Pisa Law School, participated in the unveiling ceremony via the ZOOM meeting room.

Firstly, Vice President Prof. GU Xianglin has reviewed cooperation between China and Italy after the establishment of diplomatic relations. He pointed out that the establishment of Sino-Italian Center on Administration of Justice would be a new stage of this cooperation. He hopes this center will become a platform for the spread of rule of law, for the exchange of legal talents as well as for further legal research.

Prof. JIANG Huiling has introduced reasons and visions of setting up this center. He believes that the establishment of this center will be of great significance to the study of the judicial system. By using this center as a legal research platform, more practical projects that will help students for further legal study will be available. And both Tongji university and the university of Pisa will share experience on the ongoing domestic judicial reform and implementation of the rule of law.

Michela Passalacqua, Vice President of the University of Pisa in Italy, congratulated online, saying that this event has far-reaching influence not only on academic teaching and research activities, but also on talent training and further exchanges and cooperation. Francesco Dal Canto, Dean of the Faculty of Law of the University of Pisa, said that the University of Pisa attaches great importance to the cultivation of international legal talents and he hopes that this center will promote further cooperation and exchanges. Meanwhile, he expressed gratitude to all the participants for their meaningful support and endeavor to make this center come true.

After the ceremony, Prof. JIANG Huiling and Prof. Francesco Dal Canto gave reports on the historical origin and latest development of the judicial systems of China and Italy respectively.
