Law School of Tongji University was formally established in 1945 and terminated in 1949 due to the college and department adjustment of higher education across Shanghai. In 1994, Tongji University resumed legal education, and later officially resumed the department of law school in 2009.

 

In the process of constructing Chinas rule of law and speeding up the modernization of national governance, Tongji University has appointed Jiang Huiling, a well-known judge, to be the dean of law school, and regained the ambition of revitalizing the law school and making more achievements. Tongji Law School has formulated a five-year plan and is determined to contribute to the construction of China’s rule of law. At a new historical turning point, Law School of Tongji University will comply with the requirements of the times, take the lead in legal research, continue to excel in vocational training, innovate the training mode, and practice the concept “Ride on the waves of the times, familiar with the changes of ancient and modern times, foster legal talents, and herald the cutting-edge thoughts”.

1. Positions

Positions: full professor, associate professor, and assistant professor.

Subjects: Legal Theory, Constitution and Administrative Law, Criminal Law, Civil Law, Procedural Law, Economic Law, Environmental Law, International Law.

 

2. Qualification

Full Professor

1) Applicants are expected to be person of virtue, mentally and physically healthy, devoted to teaching and research;

2) Applicants should possess a PhD Degree, and participate in academic exchanges in fluent English;

3) Generally, candidates under the age 45 (born after 1st January 1975) are preferred, yet the restriction on age can be loosen for particularly outstanding candidates;

4) Candidates are expected to be capable of teaching core and advanced courses in her/his field;

5) Candidates are expected to have sound scholarship in her/his field, an excellent research record, and influence as well as reputation in academia.

 

Associate Professor

1) Applicants are expected to be person of virtue, mentally and physically healthy, devoted to teaching and research;

2) Applicants should possess a PhD Degree, and participate in academic exchanges in fluent English;

3) Generally, candidates under the age 40 (born after 1st January 1980) are preferred, yet the restriction on age can be loosen for particularly outstanding candidates;

4) Candidates are expected to be capable of teaching major courses in her/his field;

5) Candidates are expected to have a remarkable research record and potential for excellence.

 

Assistant Professor

1) Applicants are expected to be person of virtue, mentally and physically healthy, devoted to teaching and research;

2) Applicants should possess a PhD Degree, and participate in academic exchanges in fluent English;

3) Generally, candidates shall be under the age 35 (born after 1st January 1985), and candidates with overseas experience for 2 consecutive years are preferred;

4) Candidates are expected to be capable of teaching relevant courses in her/his field;

5) Candidates are expected to have a good research record and potential for excellence.

 

3. Responsibility

The appointees are expected to:

(i) Teach courses for undergraduates and graduates, and mentor graduate students;

(ii) Conduct academic researches, direct high-standard project, publish high-quality papers, improve the disciplines and promote social influence of Tongji Law School;

(iii) Participate in academic exchanges and cooperation at home and abroad;

(iv) Participate in the discipline construction and handle public affairs assigned by Law School.

 

4. Renumeration and Privilege

With reference to the regulations of Tongji University, an annual salary system will be applied among full professors, associate professors, and assistant professors. A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered.
