In the 1990s, the globalization of trade in goods and services prompted the gradual deregulation of law firms in Europe. The creation, mergers and alliances of transnational law firms led to significant changes in the legal services landscape in the EU. Today, seven of the ten largest German law firms are named after British or American names, despite the fact that these firms have a predominantly German practice and most of their lawyers were trained in Germany.
