On November 18, the first metaverse moot court in China co-organized by Tongji Law School, Shanghai Collaborative Innovation Center of AI Social Governance, Ma'anshan Huashan District People’s Court, and Landing Law Offices was successfully held.
The metaverse composes a dual element in this moot court trial, that is, a metaverse legal dispute case is heard in a metaverse court: the plaintiff Yun Xiaoruo filed a civil tort lawsuit against Zhang San for being sexually harassed in the metaverse game. The plaintiff and the defendant along with their agents are engaged in a fierce confrontation in the mock court of the metaverse.
This event is the first virtual space metaverse moot court in China, aiming at exploring innovative legal talents training mode, court trial mode and promoting metaverse social governance. The event received wide attention from all walks of life, with more than 50 universities, courts, law firms and other organizations at home and abroad, more than 100 people signed up to attend the court, and more than 3,000 people watched the trial live online.
