Activity | Annual Meeting of Shanghai WTO Law Research Association Successfully Held in Tongji Law School

On November 5, the 2022 academic annual meeting of Shanghai WTO Law Research Association was held in Tongji Law School online and offline. This annual meeting was hosted by the Shanghai Federation of Social Sciences Association and the Shanghai WTO Law Research Association, organized by Tongji Law School, and co-organized by Law School of East China University of Science and Technology, with the theme of "Reconstruction of International Economic and Trade Rules under the Great Change and China's Response".The opening ceremony of the annual meeting was presided over by Prof. HU Jiaxiang of the Law School of Shanghai Jiaotong University, the chairman of the WTO Law research association. JIANG Huiling, Dean of Tongji Law School, delivered a speech at the opening ceremony. On behalf of Tongji Law School, he extended a warm welcome to all experts and scholars attending the meeting, introduced the development history of Tongji Law School, and stated that holding such a high-quality academic annual meeting in the context of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China is an important embodiment of the holy spirit.

ZHAO Hong, the former Chief Justice of the WTO Appellate Body and Professor of Peking University Law School, delivered a keynote speech on this annual meeting. Taking the international dispute resolution mechanism as the topic, she spoke from three perspectives: the historical development, the existing difficulties and the future trend of international dispute resolution. At the end of his speech, Prof. ZHAO Hong called on all experts and scholars to continue their efforts to establish a fair and just international dispute resolution mechanism.

After the keynote speech, the discussion focused on three topics--"Research on New Issues after the 12th WTO Ministerial Conference", "Restructuring of International Economic and Trade Rules and China's Opening up" and "New Development of International Subsidy Rules -- from the perspective of the US Chip and Science Act".
