The Seventh Tongji Law School International Summer School Held

From May 28 th  to June 1 st , 2019, the Seventh Tongji   Law   School  International Summer School  and “ Tongji-Sorbonne International Academic Forum ” w ere  held at Siping Road Campus of Tongji University. W i th a longstanding record of fine cooperation between Tongji University and Sorbonne University of France, the summer school is the third I nternational academic forum held by two universities   together.

 

 

 

This forum was held in Tongji University, where 15 students from Sorbonne University Law School and 13 students from Tongji University law school participated in the summer school. WU Weimin, Secretary of the Party Committee of Tongji Law School, Deputy Dean Xu Gang, Professor Gao Xujun, and Professor Ludovic Ayrault attended the event and addressed the opening and closing ceremonies. The professors from both sides participated in the discussion and grading. The one-week summer session was also one of the serial activities of “international summer school” for students of Tongji Law School.

 

 

 

This international academic forum focused on the theme of “Comparison of Tariff Systems between China and France under the Framework of WTO”. There were heated discussions on topics such as “Free Trade and Its Practice in China and France”, “Quota and Other Non-Tariff Trade Barriers Measures”, “WTO Rules of Differential and Special Treatment and the Practice of EU, France and China”, “Special Preferential Agreement, Practice of China, France and EU”, “Export Rebate of EU, France and China” and “The Rules and Practices of EU, France and China on the Application of WTO Rules”. During the academic forum, Chinese and French students expressed their opinions respectively from the perspectives of China and France, and gave reports on the relevant laws and regulations of WTO and tariff. Experts from the two schools gave wonderful comments on these reports  respectively. During the academic exchange, the atmosphere was active, and the students were positive.

 

 

 

Professor Wang Guiguo, a senior liberal arts scholar at Zhejiang University and Dean of the International Strategy and Law Research Institute, made a report entitled “The Belt and Road Initiative from the Perspective of Global Governance”.

 

 

In order to familiarize French teachers and students with Chinese judicial system and judicial practice, the Chinese and French students visited Shanghai financial court and Shanghai Zuoquan law firm. Judge Xu Wei from Shanghai financial court introduced the organizational structure, business scope and business process of Chinese courts; Yang Chunyan from Shanghai Zuoquan law firm introduced the development of Chinese law firms and the situation of lawyer services in the field of Taxation, which have deepened the Chinese and French students’ understanding of Chinese legal system and practice.

 

 

 

French students visited the Shanghai Center and made dumplings with the guidance of Chinese students, experienced Chinese traditional culture and the city. Through the summer school, students from both sides have developed friendship and had better understandings of Chinese law.

 

During the international academic forum, the two sides indicated that they would further strengthen cooperation and exchange between the two universities, and further expand the scope of cooperation between the two law schools. It is reported that the fourth summer school for Chinese and French students will be held in Paris, France next year.
